CORNELL'S BLASCHKA COLLECTION

Cornell University is one of a handful of academic institutions in the United States with a collection of glass invertebrates created by the Blaschkas. Although most of the university's 570 models are stored at the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, N.Y.) for safekeeping, Cornell offers two exhibits on campus open to the public. Cornell's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology has placed sixty glass invertebrates on view in the atrium of Corson Hall on Tower Road, among them some extraordinary jellyfish, sea anemones and nudibranchs. A smaller number is on exhibit at the Johnson Museum of Art, North Central Avenue.

Cornell's Collection of Blaschka Invertebrates, due to their age and fragility, are in need of restoration. If you would like to know more about this ongoing project, or to contribute, contact Professor Drew Harvell, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, 607-254-4274.
