The Vilmorin firm was established in Paris in 1775 and continues to this day.
With its long history, high standards and international influence, it has been
considered the pre-eminent European seed company throughout most of its existence.
The Vilmorins supplied vegetable seed for many years to this country
for field testing under American conditions. However it is probably their
series of large colored lithographs of vegetables issued between 1850 and
1884 that is their most noted legacy. These prints were collected under the
title Album Vilmorin: Le Jardin potager and are eagerly sought by
collectors. Many commercial reproductions have been made of the
horticultural artwork found in the pages of the Vilmorin catalog.
