Waste as a public enemy was one of the Food Administration's public attacks. Much was made of the fact that Americans were notorious wasters of food. The ways food was wasted were constantly publicized; housewives and consumers were asked to stop waste in connection with the following operations:
In peeling potatoes.
In kitchen garbage.
In stale bread.
In meat and chicken bones.
In bread crusts.
In fats which we neglect to render.
In table crumbs.
In eating more than we really need.
In frying meats and not saving the fats.
In sour milk and buttermilk that are thrown away instead of using them in baked goods.
